Orkney Property

Property values in Orkney, a group of islands in northern Scotland, is understandably one of the most competitive in the country mainly because of their potential as ideal sites for tourism-related ventures. There are about 20 inhabited and 50 smaller, uninhabited islands that comprise Orkney.

Records prove that this group of islands have been inhabited by ancient Scots and tribes for over 5,000 years now. Evidences of the existence of neolithic tribes as well as the Picts, Vikings and Norsemen tribes have been collected from various areas in Orkney, the sites of which are protected and preserved. A place called the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, a collection of neolithic monuments, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Modern Orkney is a naval center, with the Mainland characterized by major ferry systems, fishing grounds, marine energy resources sites and large housing settlements since it is where 75 percent of the Orcadians, or the people of Orkney, lives. As the main pulse of Orkney, the Mainland is the converging point for visitors and businessmen on their way to explorations of the inner islands and remote landscapes.

Around the Mainland, the ferry system links small to medium-sized islands together. Some of these islands may be too small to form communities. Nevertheless, they have great potential for commercial activities like island-hopping strings and tourist enclaves. They also have high property value and development potentials, attracting mostly foreign property buyers and investors.
